Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Hamas is “determined” to stick to the Gaza truce deal, stressing the importance of maintaining calm in the war-torn region. His remarks came during a press briefing in Ankara following talks with regional leaders.
Erdogan stated that Turkey is in close contact with Hamas and other regional stakeholders to ensure the truce holds. He emphasized that stability in Gaza is essential for preventing further humanitarian disaster and loss of innocent lives.
The Turkish leader reiterated his long-standing criticism of Israel’s military operations in Gaza, calling them “disproportionate and inhumane.” He said peace can only be achieved through dialogue and justice for the Palestinian people.
According to Erdogan, Hamas has conveyed through diplomatic channels that it will honor the ceasefire as long as Israel also abides by its commitments. He added that Turkey will continue to play a mediating role in the peace process.
International observers have welcomed the truce, though concerns remain about its fragility. Sporadic clashes and limited violations have already been reported, threatening the deal’s stability.
Erdogan urged the global community to support humanitarian aid efforts and work towards a lasting political solution for Gaza, saying “peace cannot survive without fairness.”
