The Englishman won the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award for July 2023, capping up a spectacular Ashes performance.
“It’s an honor to be named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July.” Everything we accomplished in the Ashes was a team effort, and no individual honors would be possible if everyone else wasn’t doing their job, but it’s always wonderful to be recognized, especially when it’s a public poll,” Woakes said of the prize.
It was a fantastic series, and I’m overjoyed that it captivated the public’s imagination and attention so well. It was fantastic to have so much support, and it was a fantastic series to play in.
Chris Woakes did not play in the first two Tests, and England trailed 2-0 going into the third Test in Headingley. To stay in the series, England needed the incoming players to have an immediate effect, and Woakes delivered.

Woakes took three wickets in each innings on his return to Test cricket after more than a year, including the big scalps of Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja. More crucially, he contributed a critical 32* in a thrilling chase in which he hit the winning runs to keep England in the series.
Woakes followed up his heroics with his fifth five-wicket haul in Tests during the fourth Test’s first innings. Unfortunately, weather had the final say in the match, as the final day washed out and the Manchester Test ended in a draw.
Woakes capped up the series with two Player of the Match awards in the last Test at The Oval. The 34-year-old scored a crucial run-a-ball 36 in the first innings before wrecking havoc with the ball again.
He went on to take seven wickets with the ball, helping England to a dramatic series tie.
Despite appearing in only three matches, Woakes was named Player of the Series after taking 19 wickets at an average of 18.15 and scoring 79 runs.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
