The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has imposed restrictions preventing players from participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and other franchise tournaments that coincide with the English domestic cricket season. However, an exception is maintained for the Indian Premier League (IPL).

This policy, part of broader ECB efforts to prioritize the quality of domestic competitions, includes a halt on No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for leagues clashing with events like the Vitality Blast and The Hundred. Additionally, players will be restricted from joining tournaments flagged for corruption or switching leagues mid-season.

The decision could significantly affect players financially, especially during seasons when overlapping schedules force tough choices. While this move aims to retain top talent for County Cricket, players under white-ball-only contracts remain eligible for certain overseas competitions.

Despite the new policy, the IPL continues to be an exception, with English players permitted to miss domestic fixtures to participate in the global tournament. This highlights the IPL’s stature compared to other leagues like the PSL. ECB’s chief executive, Richard Gould, emphasized the need to protect the integrity of cricket and ensure a balanced approach between player opportunities and domestic priorities.
