Elon Musk’s company, Neuralink, has achieved a significant milestone with its brain chip, known as “Blindsight,” aimed at helping blind individuals regain their vision. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted the implant a special status called “breakthrough device,” which facilitates the expedited development and testing of innovative medical technologies.

This year, 58 devices have received similar designations from the FDA, allowing Neuralink to advance its testing process. Musk celebrated this development by sharing a photo of actor LeVar Burton, known for his role in Star Trek: The Next Generation, where his character, Geordi La Forge, utilized a futuristic device to enhance his vision.
The Blindsight device is designed to assist not only those who have lost their sight due to eye or optic nerve damage but also individuals who have been blind from birth, provided their visual cortex remains intact. This groundbreaking technology could potentially enable them to see for the first time.
