Elon Musk has announced an ambitious underground transport project, dubbed the ‘Dubai Loop,’ aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Dubai. The project was revealed at the World Government Summit 2025 during a virtual conversation between Musk and Omar Al Olama, the UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications.
The Dubai Loop will connect the city’s most densely populated areas through a network of tunnels. Musk described the system as resembling a “wormhole,” offering a fast, safe, and efficient way to travel across the emirate. He expressed confidence that the system would quickly become the go-to transport solution for high-traffic zones once implemented.

Omar Al Olama praised the collaboration and hinted at excitement for the project, stating, “We’re going to join the first trip, the first pod,” while thanking Musk for the groundbreaking partnership. Although specific technical details have yet to be released, Musk’s company, The Boring Company, is known for creating cost-effective tunnels to ease traffic in major cities worldwide.
During the announcement, Musk also highlighted the benefits of underground travel over air-based options like flying taxis, which face challenges from noise, wind, and weather conditions. He pointed out that tunnels provide a safer, weather-resistant alternative, particularly in extreme conditions such as earthquakes.
The Dubai Loop follows Musk’s successful tunnel ventures, including the Las Vegas system connecting key locations like hotels, the convention center, and the airport. This new initiative is set to be a game-changer for urban mobility in Dubai.
