In an effort to enhance road travel efficiency and ease congestion, the National Highway Authority (NHA) is exploring the implementation of electronic toll plazas on major highways.
Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, has proposed transitioning from traditional toll booths to automated systems. These electronic toll plazas would use electronic tags for toll collection, enabling vehicles to pass through without the need to stop.

The new system is expected to drastically reduce wait times at toll points, providing a smoother and faster travel experience, particularly during peak hours. By eliminating cash transactions and long queues, the e-tolling system promises to make road travel more efficient.
This initiative is in line with global transportation trends toward automation. The NHA is hopeful that the introduction of electronic tolling will not only improve daily commutes but also support more sustainable road management practices in the future.
