Government Moves to Reduce Electricity Prices Nationwide
The government is actively working to lower electricity prices across the country to provide relief to consumers.
Negotiations with Power Plants Underway
According to sources in the Ministry of Energy, a task force has initiated talks with 45 additional power plants to reduce electricity tariffs.

Key Measures to Cut Costs
- The profit margin of 25 state-owned power plants will be reduced from 19% to 13%, leading to a 50-paisa per unit reduction in electricity rates.
- These power plants will now be compensated based on actual power generation rather than total production capacity.
Expected Tariff Reduction
With these measures, electricity rates are expected to decrease by Rs2 per unit. The task force’s recommendations are set to be presented for approval in the next cabinet meeting.
