Eid ul Adha Likely to Be Celebrated on June 7 Across Pakistan

Pakistan is expected to celebrate Eidul Adha on Saturday, June 7, as astronomical forecasts suggest the moon marking the beginning of Zilhaj will likely be visible on May 28. The prediction is based on expert observations of the lunar cycle and growing reliance on astronomical data for early estimates.

Renowned astronomer Dr Faheem Hashmi stated that the moon would be just 11 hours old on May 27, making it too young to be seen at sunset. However, by May 28, the moon will be over 35 hours old, substantially increasing the likelihood of sighting across various parts of the country.

If the moon is indeed sighted on May 28, Zilhaj will commence on May 29, placing Eidul Adha on June 7 — the 10th day of the Islamic month. The festival is one of Islam’s two major celebrations, honouring the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim who was willing to sacrifice his son in submission to God’s will.

While astronomical predictions are increasingly accurate, the official announcement will still come from the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which bases its decision on moon sighting reports collected nationwide.
