A moderate earthquake shook several regions of Pakistan early Monday, causing tremors across multiple cities and towns. The earthquake registered a magnitude of 5.4, according to the seismic monitoring center.
The strongest tremors were felt in Islamabad and nearby areas of Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Mandi Bahauddin, Sarai Alamgir, and Sargodha. Residents in Daska, Chakwal, Choha Saidan Shah, Kallar Syedan, and Safdarabad also reported feeling the earthquake.
Other areas affected in Punjab included Kallar Kahar, Gujrat, Kharian, Gujar Khan, Phalia, and Khanqah Dogran. The earthquake’s impact was widely noticed across these cities, causing brief moments of alarm but no immediate reports of damage.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the earthquake’s tremors were recorded in Charsadda, Swat, Dir, Buner, and Kohat. Additional reports came from Mardan, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Nowshera, Khyber, Landi Kotal, North Waziristan, Miranshah, and Hangu.
The quake was also felt in Mirpur and nearby areas of Azad Kashmir, as well as in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, including Ghizer. People across these regions described feeling mild to moderate shaking.
The earthquake caught many by surprise but so far, authorities have not reported any casualties or significant damage. Rescue and monitoring teams are keeping a close watch on the situation in case of aftershocks.
Experts remind residents to stay calm and prepared for possible smaller tremors following the earthquake. They also advise avoiding unstable structures and reporting any damage promptly.
