The alert signals a period of dusty winds and thundershowers likely to persist in Punjab until May 18.
PDMA’s spokesperson noted that regions such as Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Gujranwala are expected to experience rainfall. Similarly, Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Okara, Sargodha, and Mianwali may witness thunderstorms.

Besides precipitation, temperatures are projected to significantly rise, with an average increase of 8 degrees this month. A particularly severe heat wave is anticipated in Punjab from May 21 to 27, with temperatures expected to be 6 degrees higher than normal, resulting in dry weather conditions.
In response to these forecasts, the Punjab chief minister has directed the district administration to issue alerts to ensure readiness and safety. Additionally, PDMA has advised relevant departments, including health, irrigation, construction and communications, local government, and livestock, to take necessary precautions.
