Islamabad’s traffic police have decided to utilize drone technology to monitor and prevent traffic violations more effectively across the federal capital. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Zeeshan Haider announced that drone cameras will be used to enhance law enforcement and ensure smoother traffic management on busy roads.
Initially, drones will be deployed over Islamabad’s Expressway and Srinagar Highway. In the second phase, this system will be expanded to other sectors and major highways. These drones will help in identifying traffic violations in real time, and immediate fines will be issued to the offenders.

Beyond enforcement, drones will also assist in detecting traffic congestion points. Once a congested area is identified, a dedicated team will be dispatched for a quick response to manage the situation and reduce delays.
Last month, Islamabad Traffic Police took legal action against over 10,500 individuals for various offenses. These included fines for non-compliant number plates, riding without helmets, illegal parking, driving in the wrong direction, running red lights, not wearing seat belts, and using mobile phones while driving. The drone initiative is part of a broader campaign to improve road safety and discipline in the city.
