Drag Racing Returns to Islamabad After 15-year Ban

The capital is roaring with excitement this weekend as it hosts Race Wars Pakistan 2025, a three-day motorsports festival from October 17 to 19 at Shakarparian Parade Ground.

The event offers a thrilling lineup for car enthusiasts — starting Friday with head-to-head (H2H) racing, followed by drifting competitions on Saturday showcasing precision and control, and wrapping up Sunday with the high-speed drag racing finale.

Beyond the races, visitors can enjoy car showcases, vendor stalls, driver meet-and-greets, and a behind-the-scenes look at performance car builds.

However, the festival’s comeback stirs memories of a tragic 2010 drag racing accident in Bahria Town, where a speeding car lost control and killed five spectators. The incident led to a ban on public racing events and a Supreme Court inquiry over safety lapses.

Since then, motorsport organizers have been mandated to follow strict safety protocols — including barriers, crowd management, and emergency preparedness — to prevent similar tragedies.

With Race Wars 2025, Islamabad’s motorsport scene officially revives, blending speed, style, and safety in a long-awaited return to public racing.
