US President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned Iran to negotiate a nuclear deal or face a more severe US military response.
In a social media post, Trump urged Tehran to “come to the table” quickly and reach a fair agreement that ensures no nuclear weapons. He added that time is running out and stressed the urgency of the situation.
The Republican leader, who withdrew the US from the 2015 multination nuclear deal during his first term, referenced past warnings to Iran that were followed by military strikes. He added, “The next attack will be far worse! Don’t make that happen again,” and mentioned another US “armada” moving toward Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said he had not been in contact with US special envoy Steve Witkoff recently and has not requested negotiations, according to state media.
Earlier, US officials said Washington is ready for diplomatic engagement if Iran chooses to reach out. The United States continues to pressure Iran through military deployments and strict conditions tied to its nuclear program and regional activities.
A senior US official said on Monday that Tehran already knows the terms required for negotiations. “I think they know the terms. They’re aware of the terms,” the official told reporters.
The statements come amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran. Both diplomatic and military measures are being emphasized to prevent Iran from advancing its nuclear ambitions.
Donald Trump’s warning signals the administration’s willingness to escalate military pressure while leaving the door open for diplomacy. Analysts say the situation remains delicate, with the potential for either negotiations or confrontation depending on Iran’s next steps.
