The Government of Pakistan has announced the formation of a special medical board to assess the worsening eye condition of Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), following serious concerns about his declining vision. The two-member panel, comprising Dr. Amjad and Dr. Nadeem Qureshi, will conduct a comprehensive examination. Based on their findings, authorities will decide whether Imran Khan should be shifted to a specialized medical facility for advanced treatment.
Reports indicate that despite ongoing medical care, Imran Khan’s eyesight has significantly deteriorated, leaving him with only 15 percent vision in his right eye. Taking notice of the matter, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has directed the federal government to ensure a detailed medical evaluation by specialists before February 16. The directive was issued by a two-member bench led by Justice Yahya Afridi after reviewing a report submitted by Barrister Salman Safdar, who met Imran Khan in jail and observed his condition firsthand.
According to the report, Imran Khan’s vision has declined sharply over the past three months, although it was reportedly stable until October 2025. The barrister noted visible distress over delays in medical attention. The situation has triggered protests across several cities, with political supporters, public figures, and family members voicing concern. His sister, Alima Khan, confirmed that the family is awaiting urgent medical intervention.
Meanwhile, Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar rejected claims of negotiations with PTI and dismissed allegations of mistreatment in jail. He stated that Imran Khan is receiving proper medical attention, including prior treatment at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). He assured that specialist ophthalmologists will examine him, and a detailed report will be submitted to the Supreme Court, emphasizing that all steps will prioritize Imran Khan’s health and transparency.
