Doctors at Hurghada’s General Hospital in Egypt successfully performed a rare surgery to remove a mobile phone from a patient’s stomach.
The Red Sea Health Directorate reported that the man arrived with severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, and weakness. Scans revealed a small mobile phone lodged in his stomach, reportedly swallowed by accident.
Hospital Director Dr. Karim El-Shabrawy said a specialized surgical team operated immediately, removing the device. The patient is now in stable condition but remains under observation.
Authorities have not explained how the incident occurred. A similar case was reported in Egypt in 2021, when doctors removed a phone from a patient’s esophagus. Experts caution that ingesting such objects poses serious health risks.
