Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are reportedly heading for divorce after two years of marriage. According to court documents filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Lopez initiated the divorce proceedings on Tuesday.
The couple, often referred to as “Bennifer” by the media, had rekindled their romance nearly two decades after their first engagement. They originally got married in Las Vegas in July 2022, followed by a larger ceremony in Georgia a month later. Their relationship dates back to 2003 when they met while filming the crime drama Gigli. Although they were set to marry in 2003, they called off their engagement in early 2004. After spending years apart, they reconnected and ultimately tied the knot in 2022. At the time of their wedding, Lopez commented on the enduring nature of their love, saying, “Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient.”

The court filing indicates that Lopez or her attorney will need to serve Affleck with a copy of the divorce petition. Notably, the petition does not mention a prenuptial agreement, and the court requires both Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, to disclose their financial details, including income, expenses, properties, and debts. Each party has 60 days to file their financial disclosures, and failure to do so could result in penalties.
Rumors of tension in their relationship have circulated recently, with reports suggesting they have listed their Beverly Hills mansion for sale at $65 million and have been seen without their wedding rings. Affleck, who has won two Oscars, was previously married to Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children. Lopez has been married four times before, including to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd, and Marc Anthony, with whom she has twins. She was also engaged to Alex Rodriguez.
