According to the notification, “Mr. Zahir Shah shall act as Chairman, National Accountability Bureau, with effect from 22-02-2023 and until the nomination of new chairman, under the ordinance, in accordance with the proviso[n] to Section 6(b)(v) of revised NAO 1999.”

Since former chairman Aftab Sultan‘s resignation, Zahir has already been managing the NAB. In October 2021, he was made deputy chairman of NAB. He has more than ten years of experience working for the accountability watchdog and has held a variety of posts, including Director General NAB Rawalpindi.\

Aftab Sultan, the former chairman, left his position less than a year after being named the head of the NAB. He’d stated, “I informed them that I had to stop because of the circumstances. It ends on a good note with the acceptance of my resignation.”

Because it is a constitutional office, the NAB chairman will be chosen following discussions between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the opposition leader. The deputy chairman will serve as the accountability watchdog’s acting chairman in the interim. The acting chairman, however, is not able to use his or her authority to approve the filing of any references in a court.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
