New Delhi has once again topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities, with Lahore following closely in second place. According to air quality data,

Delhi recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) above 440, placing it in the “hazardous” category, while Lahore’s AQI also reached dangerously high levels.

Experts say the rise in pollution is mainly due to crop burning, industrial emissions, and traffic smoke, worsened by weather conditions trapping pollutants in the air. The situation has led to poor visibility and serious health warnings for residents of both cities.

Authorities in India and Pakistan have urged citizens to limit outdoor activity, especially children and the elderly, as both capitals experience toxic smog each winter.

Environmental groups have called for stronger policies to reduce emissions and control crop burning, which continues to fuel the crisis.
