Defence Spending Sees Major Hike in 2025–26 Budget Proposal

The federal government has proposed a significant boost in defence spending for the fiscal year 2025–26, setting aside Rs2,550 billion — a nearly 20% increase from the current year’s allocation. The move reflects the country’s evolving security needs amid growing fiscal demands.

This marks a sharp rise from the current allocation of Rs2,122 billion, although actual defence spending by the end of the ongoing fiscal year is expected to touch Rs2,181 billion. The proposed hike demonstrates the government’s intent to enhance military capacity and operational readiness across all three branches of the armed forces.

According to the budget document presented in the National Assembly, the Pakistan Army is set to receive over Rs1,165 billion, up from Rs1,009 billion last year. Revised figures show the army spent approximately Rs1,058 billion during the current fiscal year.

The Pakistan Air Force will see its budget climb to Rs520.74 billion from Rs451 billion, while the Pakistan Navy is allocated Rs265.97 billion — an increase from Rs230 billion previously. These adjustments also reflect a continued rise in revised expenditures for both branches.
