Over 50% Of Pakistani Bureaucrats Own Properties In Portugal Defence Minister

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif recently made serious allegations about Pakistan’s bureaucrats. He claimed that more than 50% of them have bought properties in Portugal. According to the Defence Minister, many officials are also seeking citizenship to settle abroad after retirement.

In a post on social media platform X, the Defence Minister accused senior bureaucrats of accumulating wealth through corrupt means. He said some officials are planning to move overseas with these illegal earnings. One example mentioned was a bureaucrat close to former Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar. This official reportedly received gifts worth Rs. 4 billion during his daughter’s wedding.

The Defence Minister also pointed out that politicians are often wrongly blamed for corruption. He noted that politicians usually have fewer assets and do not hold foreign citizenship. In contrast, bureaucrats avoid proper scrutiny despite their significant wealth. The Defence Minister described the bureaucracy’s behavior as “shameful” and damaging to the country’s reputation.

These allegations have raised concerns about accountability within Pakistan’s civil service. Experts say such claims, if true, indicate a deep-rooted problem in the system. The Defence Minister’s statement adds pressure on authorities to investigate and take action.

Corruption and misuse of power have been longstanding issues in Pakistan. The Defence Minister’s remarks highlight the need for greater transparency and oversight. Many citizens expect reforms to stop officials from exploiting their positions.

The Defence Minister’s comments come at a time when Pakistan is working to improve governance and public trust. His statements have sparked debates about the role of bureaucrats in the country’s future. Moving forward, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to these serious claims.
