David Wiese Backs Shaheen Afridi After Qalandars’ Dominant Win Over Gladiators
Lahore Qalandars’ all-rounder David Wiese came to the strong defense of captain Shaheen Shah Afridi during a post-match press conference, following their emphatic win against Quetta Gladiators in PSL X at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Backing the Captain
Amid ongoing speculation about Afridi’s strained relationship with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) due to his absence from recent series, Wiese dismissed the doubts.
“There’s been some stuff going on between him and Pakistan, with him missing recent series, but he’s still the same Shaheen,” Wiese said.
“He’s world-class and the only captain I’d want to play for in the PSL.”
His comments highlighted Afridi’s leadership and unwavering commitment to the team, despite external pressures.

Shaheen’s On-Field Heroics
The Qalandars bounced back impressively after a poor start to the tournament against Islamabad United. Leading from the front, Afridi removed both Saud Shakeel and Finn Allen in his opening spell, effectively dismantling Quetta’s top order.
The Gladiators collapsed for 140, falling well short of Lahore’s 220-run target. While Lahore’s batting set the foundation, it was Afridi’s bowling that turned the tide, showcasing his elite skill and captaincy under pressure.
Statement Victory
With this commanding win, Lahore Qalandars reminded the competition of their quality. The team will hope this performance sets the momentum for the rest of their PSL campaign.
Shaheen’s leadership on and off the field continues to draw praise as Lahore eyes another deep run in the tournament.
