Cyclone Alert: Karachi Port halts operations and issues a high alert

In response to the looming threat of a cyclone, the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has issued an alert, leading to the temporary suspension of vessel movements and port operations. This precautionary measure aims to ensure the safety of the port’s infrastructure, vessels, and personnel.

A KPT spokesperson confirmed that all departments and staff at Karachi Port have been instructed to stay on high alert. An advisory has been issued, stressing the importance of taking necessary safety precautions to avoid any untoward incidents during the cyclone threat. The advisory also directed that all docked ships be securely fastened to prevent potential damage from the severe weather conditions. The spokesperson emphasized that these measures are crucial for safeguarding port operations and the maritime community.

Meanwhile, at the South Asia Port Terminal (SAPT) in Karachi, also known as China Port, a powerful gust of wind led to the overturning of several containers. The empty containers lost stability due to the intensity of the wind and rolled over. Fortunately, there were no casualties or significant property damage, and port operations continued without interruption. The port authorities have taken note of the incident and are likely to implement additional safety measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
