Customs Intelligence Lahore cracks down on smuggling with record seizures

The Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation-Customs Lahore has achieved significant success in the early months of fiscal year 2024-25, surpassing last year’s performance in anti-smuggling and enforcement activities. Led by Director Tayyeba Kayani, the team carried out 31 seizure operations, amounting to Rs 1,518.4 million in value, representing a 200% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

Notable seizures included 21.140 kg of heroin, 658,139 kg of dry fruits, 72,220 electronic items, and various other valuable goods. Joint operations with law enforcement agencies also led to the recovery of 17.140 kg of smuggled heroin and goods worth Rs 387.6 million.

In addition, the Enforcement Branch’s anti-evasion efforts uncovered misdeclarations involving duties and taxes totaling Rs 202.5 million, with Rs 150.367 million recovered so far. The Directorate also generated Rs 83.107 million through auctions, reflecting a 1.7% improvement over the same period last year.

These accomplishments highlight the effectiveness of Customs Intelligence Lahore in its fight against smuggling and tax evasion, setting a strong example for the rest of the fiscal year. The success is largely credited to the dynamic leadership and collaborative efforts of the team, sending a clear warning to smugglers and tax evaders.
