Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a two-year contract extension with Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, keeping him at the club until 2027, the team confirmed on Thursday. The announcement ended months of speculation about the Portuguese superstar’s future.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is staying at @AlNassrFC until 2027,” the club posted on X (formerly Twitter). Just before the official reveal, Al Nassr shared a teaser video featuring the 39-year-old walking along a beach, declaring: “Al Nassr forever.”
Since joining Al Nassr in 2023, Ronaldo has been a marquee figure in Saudi football, attracting other high-profile players to the league. Despite his individual success—finishing as the league’s top scorer with 25 goals this season—Al Nassr ended the campaign trophyless, placing third in the league and falling short in the Asian Champions League semifinals.
Last month, Ronaldo sparked speculation about his future by posting “This chapter is over” after the season concluded. However, his renewed commitment reinforces his role in Saudi Arabia’s ambitious football project.
A source from the Public Investment Fund (PIF), which owns several Pro League clubs, told AFP that Ronaldo’s presence has been “a key factor in developing the Saudi league”, helping attract elite and emerging talents.

Saudi Arabia’s aggressive investment in football, starting with Ronaldo’s high-profile transfer, has drawn comparisons to China’s short-lived spending spree. However, with the 2034 World Cup secured, the kingdom remains determined to establish itself as a global football hub.
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, previously hinted he could retire at Al Nassr. His lucrative deal—reportedly worth $250 million—has set the stage for more big-name signings as Saudi football continues its rapid rise.
With the league already hosting stars like Karim Benzema and Neymar (who left Al Hilal after an injury-ridden stint), Ronaldo’s extension ensures the Pro League retains its biggest icon for years to come.
