Following the orders of Director General Kinza Murtaza, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Enforcement Squad launched a special monsoon crackdown on Wednesday, targeting illegal and dangerous constructions to ensure public safety. The campaign focuses on unauthorized structures and encroachments built along natural drains and near key water bodies in the city.
During the operation, RDA issued 10 notices to owners of hazardous and unlawful constructions on major roads, including Adyala Road, Dhamial Road, and the Dhamial-Kalyal Link Road. The effort aims to prevent flooding risks during heavy rains by clearing blockages in stormwater channels caused by illegal structures.
The enforcement began on Adyala Road and extended to areas around Jawa Dam and Misriot Dam, where thorough inspections were conducted to identify potential threats to water safety and flood control during the monsoon season.
DG Kinza Murtaza affirmed RDA’s strong commitment to public safety and warned of strict action against any illegal construction, especially those obstructing natural drainage systems. She instructed enforcement teams to act impartially and noted that these efforts align with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s zero-tolerance policy on encroachments.
The DG emphasized that this campaign is part of RDA’s broader plan for sustainable urban development and resilience against climate change impacts. Citizens have been urged to cooperate and avoid building on encroached land, especially near nullahs and dams.
The operation was led by Assistant Director Building Control Shiza Tanweer, with support from Building Surveyor Aamir Mahmood Malik and other officials, focusing on areas most vulnerable to water-related hazards.
