Court Issues Notices To PTA Over Pakistan Twitter(X) Outage

Islamabad High Court has issued notices to the Information Ministry and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) regarding the prolonged inaccessibility of the social media giant X, formerly known as Twitter, in Pakistan for the past two weeks, despite previous court orders. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the Islamabad High Court presided over a plea challenging the closure of the microblogging platform, questioning the reasons behind the shutdown of a platform used by millions in the country.

The Chief Justice sought information on the status of a similar matter in the Sindh High Court (SHC), where a petition had been filed and the court had ordered the immediate restoration of services. The counsel informed the IHC Chief Justice about a petition related to contempt of court that is scheduled for a hearing.

In response, the Chief Justice issued orders to issue notices to the Chief Justice of the SHC, and the matter is scheduled to be heard in the coming week.
