A Lahore court has discharged a citizen arrested for allegedly using offensive language against Punjab Chief Minister CM Maryam Nawaz. The case, registered by Green Town police, involved Sajid Nawaz, who was presented before Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Farid Qureshi during the proceedings.

The police had completed their investigation and sought to send the accused to jail on judicial remand. However, the defence counsel argued that the FIR was filed without any factual basis and lacked substantial evidence. The lawyer also pointed out that Sajid Nawaz had already apologized during police custody, questioning the merit of the case.

During the court hearing, the defence highlighted that the accusations against Nawaz were not supported by any concrete evidence. The lawyer further emphasized that the case should not have been pursued based on unverified claims. In response, the prosecution failed to provide sufficient proof to substantiate the charges.

After hearing both sides, Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Farid Qureshi ruled to discharge the accused from the case, stating that no solid grounds existed to proceed further. The magistrate noted that the case lacked the necessary legal backing and could not continue without proper evidence.

This ruling comes as a reminder of the importance of evidence in legal proceedings, particularly when it involves sensitive cases against public figures like CM Maryam Nawaz. It also raises questions about the boundaries of free speech and the legal limits on offensive remarks made against political leaders. As this case develops, it may set a legal precedent for how similar cases are handled in the future.
