Court Approves Bail for Sher Afzal Marwat and PTI Leaders in Islamabad Rally Case

In Islamabad, an anti-terrorism court has granted bail to several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) National Assembly members, including Sher Afzal Marwat. The court ordered their release upon the submission of surety bonds worth Rs30,000 each. Judge Abu Al-Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain presided over the hearing, during which the prosecutor noted that MNA Ahmad Chattha was named in the case, which has a minimum sentence of three years.

The court inquired about evidence related to the arrested PTI members, including Sher Afzal Marwat and Ahmad Chattha, but the prosecutor confirmed that no evidence had been recovered from them. The PTI members were arrested under anti-terrorism charges at various police stations, including Sangjani, Tarnol, and Noon.

The arrests occurred on September 9, when Islamabad police detained PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and MNA Sher Afzal Marwat outside the Parliament House. Police had assembled in large numbers outside the Parliament in anticipation of the event. The detentions were part of a broader crackdown following a PTI rally that was seen as a test of the party’s political influence.

In addition to the arrests, three cases were filed against PTI leaders for violating public order laws during the rally. The charges include exceeding the rally’s permitted time, violating approved routes, and stone-pelting on police officers. These cases were registered under the recently-enacted Public Order and Peace Act.
