CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the new Korangi Causeway Bridge on Monday. The bridge will improve traffic flow in Karachi’s eastern districts.
The project aims to reduce congestion for people living in Korangi and Landhi. It will also help traffic move safely during the Malir River floods.
The bridge is 1.4 kilometers long and cost Rs6.135 billion to build. Officials said the project meets modern engineering standards. Construction of the bridge began in July 2023. Engineers completed the work in January this year. The bridge now stands ready for public use.
The structure is 26 meters wide and crosses the Malir River. It includes proper lanes, central median, and footpaths for pedestrians.
Before the opening, a Monitoring and Evaluation team inspected the project. The team checked progress, quality, and safety features. They reviewed the length, width, and design details of the bridge.
CM Sindh praised the engineers and workers for completing the project on time. He said the bridge would provide relief to daily commuters. He added that better roads help improve the city’s economy.
Residents of Korangi and Landhi welcomed the new bridge. Many said travel time would reduce during peak hours. The bridge will also prevent long delays during heavy rains and floods.
Officials said the causeway will improve access between industrial areas and residential zones. Trucks and buses will now move more smoothly across the river.
CM Sindh said the government remains focused on infrastructure development. He said more road and bridge projects are planned across the province.
The bridge is part of a wider effort to modernize Karachi’s transport network. Authorities believe it will improve safety and reduce travel stress.
Traffic police will monitor vehicle movement during the first weeks of operation. Signs and markings have been added to guide drivers.
City officials advised drivers to follow speed limits and lane rules. They said safe driving will help prevent accidents on the new bridge.
