Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched a new ration card scheme aimed at helping low-income families across Punjab. The initiative is designed to provide essential food items at subsidized rates, ensuring that no household is left struggling to meet basic needs.

Under the new program, registered families will receive special ration cards that can be used at designated shops and utility stores. These cards will allow eligible citizens to purchase essential goods such as flour, sugar, rice, and cooking oil at affordable prices.

Speaking at the launch event, CM Maryam Nawaz said that the government’s priority is to support the most vulnerable segments of society. She emphasized that the ration card scheme is part of a larger plan to improve living standards and reduce the financial burden on poor families.

The provincial administration is also introducing a digital registration system to ensure transparency and prevent misuse. Beneficiaries will be identified through a database linked to the Punjab Social Protection Authority. The program will first roll out in major cities before expanding to rural areas.

Officials added that this initiative will not only provide relief to struggling families but also stabilize prices in local markets. The government plans to monitor the scheme closely to maintain fairness and efficiency in distribution.

Economists and social experts have welcomed the move, calling it a step in the right direction for addressing inflation and poverty. They believe that such targeted welfare programs can create long-term social stability if implemented properly.

With this ration card scheme, Punjab aims to set a new model for social welfare that combines technology, accountability, and compassion to serve its people.
