Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed immediate implementation of a comprehensive rehabilitation package for flood victims across the province, following the longest special meeting of her tenure focused on disaster relief and prevention.
Presiding over the session, she instructed departments including the Urban Unit and Board of Revenue to expedite relief efforts with a people-first approach. She also ordered an increase in funds, prioritizing support for flood-hit farmers, and called for a transparent digital survey to assess damages, overseen by a high-level committee.
Maryam Nawaz further directed the setup of temporary marquees in every district for displaced families, ensuring clean water, food, and separate facilities for men and women. She emphasized that rehabilitation programs like Apni Chatt, Apna Ghar will be expanded to provide permanent housing.
In preventive measures, she approved declaring riverbeds and streams as “red zones” to prohibit construction and ordered removal of encroachments from waterways. A long-term master plan has also been sought to mitigate future flood risks.
Vowing to stand with flood-affected communities, Maryam Nawaz said she would not rest until every family has shelter, stressing that rehabilitation and disaster prevention remain her government’s top priority.
