Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister CM Afridi has called the punishment of former DG ISI Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed an internal matter of the Pakistan Army. He made the remarks during a media briefing in Rawalpindi on Thursday.
CM Afridi explained that Faiz Hameed had been an employee of an institution and was punished over a specific matter. He added that if political issues arise regarding the case, a complete response would be provided.
The KP chief minister emphasized that his actions were not driven by malice or pride. He clarified that PTI founder Imran Khan’s sisters were not acting politically but were merely conveying the founder’s statements publicly.
Speaking about his visit, CM Afridi said he had come to meet his leader but was not granted permission. He stated that Pakistan belongs to all citizens and is not anyone’s personal property.
CM Afridi also mentioned that his passport had already been placed on the stop list. He urged political opponents to focus on governance in their respective areas and emphasized his connection with his province and its people.
Analysts note that CM Afridi’s remarks aim to highlight the separation between military and political matters, reinforcing that accountability within institutions is an internal process. His comments also underline the government’s stance on transparency and lawfulness without interfering in military decisions.
Observers believe that CM Afridi’s statements could help calm political tensions while clarifying the provincial government’s position. By addressing the issue publicly, he intends to maintain trust with constituents while acknowledging institutional processes.
