CM Afridi Prohibits 3MPO Arrests And Announces Major KP Reforms

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Monday announced a ban on arrests under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). He also unveiled a wide-ranging reform agenda focused on governance, law and order, and anti-corruption.

CM Afridi chaired his first high-level meeting after taking office, attended by senior bureaucrats, police officials, and divisional and district heads via video link. The meeting reviewed the Good Governance Roadmap, highlighting public service delivery, economic development, and law and order improvements aligned with PTI’s vision.

The Chief Minister praised KP’s bureaucracy and police for protecting the public mandate during the February 8, 2024 elections. He announced that honest officials will be rewarded, while those acting against the public interest will face strict accountability measures.

Focus on Governance and Anti-Corruption

CM Afridi emphasized a zero-tolerance policy on corruption. He stated that negligent officials will not retain their positions. Authorities were directed to link the e-PAID system with e-tendering to increase transparency. He also introduced a Conceptual Examination System to reduce rote learning in education. Afridi warned that violations of merit in postings and transfers will not be tolerated.

Major Development Initiatives

The Chief Minister announced several development projects for Peshawar and merged tribal districts, including:

  • Establishing a Tribal Medical College and Tribal University of Modern Sciences
  • Launching a Safe City Project and building playgrounds in every tehsil
  • Founding the University of Investigative and Modern Journalism in honor of Shaheed Arshad Sharif
  • Preparing a Revival Plan for Peshawar city to restore infrastructure and culture

Ban on 3MPO Arrests

CM Afridi stated that no political figure will be detained under Section 3 of the MPO. FIRs based on political revenge will be withdrawn. He emphasized that freedom of expression is a constitutional right and directed police to maintain impartiality.

Afridi also rejected substandard bulletproof vehicles provided by the federal government and promised modern weapons and resources for the KP police. Security for former chief ministers will be restored.

The reforms aim to ensure practical governance, strengthen law and order, and improve the lives of citizens across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
