Now that Cillian Murphy has received the well-deserved Oscar, he can return to his iconic role as Tommy Shelby, solidifying his place in fans’ hearts. Creator and executive producer Steven Knight had hinted at a Peaky Blinders movie back in March, sparking hope among fans. Now Netflix has officially given the green light to the feature film, with Murphy reprising his role as the fearless leader of the Shelby clan.
In the series’ last installment, Tommy Shelby appeared to have settled his scores, including the demise of his cousin Michael and had handed over the family business to his sister Ada before riding off into the sunset on a white horse. However, as Murphy revealed in an interview, Tommy Shelby’s story isn’t over yet, much to the delight of the devoted Peaky Blinders fandom.

While details regarding casting and plot remain scarce, with the film still untitled, the return of Murphy in the lead role and Knight writing the script promise to captivate fans once again. Knight previously hinted that the film would be set during World War II, promising an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders saga.
Tom Harper, known for his work on projects like “Heart of Stone” and “The Aeronauts,” will direct the film, bringing his familiarity with the Peaky Blinders universe to the project. Harper expressed excitement about reuniting with Knight and Murphy, emphasizing the story’s focus on family.
Production for the film, in association with BBC Film, is set to commence later this year. Caryn Mandabach, Knight, Murphy, and Guy Heeley will serve as producers, with Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason as executive producers.
“Peaky Blinders,” which premiered on BBC Two in 2013 and later joined Netflix in 2014, garnered widespread acclaim, leading to its transition to BBC One in 2019 after winning the BAFTA for Best Drama. The series concluded its six-season run in 2022, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the upcoming film adaptation.
