Xi signals willingness to work with Trump on bilateral relations

Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his readiness to continue collaborating with US President Donald Trump in order to reinforce the foundations of China–US relations and ensure a stable environment for mutual progress. During their meeting on the sidelines of an event in Busan, Xi emphasized that despite occasional disputes, cooperation between the world’s two largest economies has largely remained steady under their joint leadership.

Xi underscored that China and the United States should regard one another as “partners and friends,” noting that both history and current global dynamics demand cooperation rather than rivalry. He encouraged both countries to work together to overcome challenges and maintain momentum in their diplomatic and economic engagements.

Highlighting China’s domestic progress, Xi pointed out that the country recorded a 5.2 percent economic growth rate over the first nine months of the year—an outcome he described as proof of China’s resilience and long-term promise. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to reforms, greater openness, and the sharing of development benefits with other nations, stressing that Beijing does not seek confrontation or dominance.

Regarding economic relations, Xi stated that negotiators from both sides have already achieved consensus on several important trade matters. He urged rapid implementation of these understandings to restore global market confidence. The business sector, he added, should remain a stabilizing force in bilateral ties.

Xi further identified artificial intelligence, public health, anti-money laundering efforts, and telecom fraud prevention as areas where cooperation could be expanded. He noted that with China set to host APEC 2026 and the United States preparing for the G20 Summit next year, both sides have key opportunities to work together in promoting worldwide economic stability and growth.
