China Welcomes Diplomatic Thaw Between Pakistan and Afghanistan

China has voiced strong support for the recent decision by Pakistan and Afghanistan to elevate their diplomatic ties by upgrading their missions to the ambassadorial level. The move marks a significant shift in regional diplomacy, as tensions have simmered between the neighboring countries in recent years.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian described the development as a “positive and significant” step that could enhance mutual trust and reinforce bilateral cooperation. He added that China stands ready to play a constructive role in fostering improved relations between the two sides.

The decision comes in the wake of an informal trilateral meeting held in May between the foreign ministers of China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. According to China, this progress reflects both countries’ commitment to implementing outcomes from that dialogue and advancing shared regional goals.

China emphasized that stronger diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and Kabul could help promote peace and stability across the broader region—an outcome Beijing has consistently encouraged as part of its regional cooperation strategy.
