China has strongly rejected recent remarks made by an Indian official regarding the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama. Beijing has called the matter purely an internal affair and warned against any foreign interference.
Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, stated that Tibet is an inseparable part of China, both historically and culturally. He emphasized that Tibetan Buddhism originated and developed within Chinese territory, especially on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Xu Feihong stressed that the authority to decide on the reincarnation of religious figures, including the Dalai Lama, lies solely with the central government of China. He warned that no foreign individual, organization, or government has the right to interfere in this religious process.
The ambassador also pointed out that China follows strict legal procedures when managing the reincarnation of Living Buddhas. These regulations, according to Beijing, ensure the preservation of tradition while maintaining state oversight and religious order.
“Religious affairs in China must be handled independently and free from foreign influence,” Xu said in his statement. He also called on India to respect China’s sovereignty and avoid statements that could affect bilateral ties.
This statement follows a history of tension between the two neighboring countries, especially regarding Tibet and the Dalai Lama’s status. The issue of his reincarnation has become a flashpoint, with China keen to assert full control over the process.
China‘s response reflects its broader policy of non-interference and protection of national unity. The Chinese government has repeatedly stated that it will not tolerate any external comments or actions that challenge its authority in Tibet.
The issue remains a sensitive one and is likely to continue shaping diplomatic relations between China and India in the years ahead.
