Inflation-weary Pakistanis are grappling with another financial blow as chicken meat prices have soared to nearly Rs900 per kilogram in early January. This sharp rise has placed an additional burden on households already struggling with high living costs.
In the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, chicken prices have jumped by Rs450 per kilogram, with meat being sold at Rs890. The surge is attributed to increased demand during the colder months. Rawalpindi, in particular, has witnessed dramatic price hikes, with live chicken now costing Rs580 per kilogram.

Karachi is seeing chicken meat sold at Rs700 per kilogram, despite the official rate set at Rs635 by the city’s commissioner. Meanwhile, farm eggs in Karachi are priced at Rs350 per dozen.
In Lahore, chicken prices have surged unexpectedly, climbing to Rs700 per kilogram from Rs595 within days. This nationwide trend of skyrocketing poultry prices has left consumers frustrated and concerned about managing their food expenses.
