Government Announces Lower Electricity Rates For Industry And Agriculture

The Government of Pakistan has unveiled a three-year electricity relief package called the “Roshan Maeeshat Electricity Package”. The initiative aims to support industrial and agricultural sectors from November 2025 to October 2028.

Under the package, industries and farmers will receive electricity at a concessionary rate of Rs. 22.98 per unit, significantly lower than the current rates of Rs. 34 for industry and Rs. 38 for agriculture. The Government confirmed that household consumers and other sectors will not bear the cost of this relief.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during a meeting with sector experts and business representatives. He praised Energy Minister Sardar Awais Leghari and his team for preparing the package efficiently, ensuring it addresses the needs of key economic sectors.

The Prime Minister highlighted the success of a similar relief program last year, which provided additional 410 gigawatts of electricity to industries and farms. That initiative helped keep factories operational, increased exports, and created new jobs, demonstrating the positive impact of government support.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the Government is committed to achieving economic stability and self-reliance. He noted that sustained growth in industry and agriculture will reduce dependence on foreign loans and strengthen Pakistan’s economy.

The Prime Minister also stated that the package reflects the Government’s broader strategy to improve economic indicators and promote long-term development. Further details on implementation and rollout plans will be provided by the Ministry of Energy in the coming weeks.
