Powering the Nation: Nuclear Energy’s Expanding Role
According to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), the country is currently operating six nuclear power plants, contributing a total of 3,530 MW to the national grid. Four of these units are located at Chashma near Mianwali, while the other two, K-2 and K-3, are situated near Karachi.
The record-breaking performance of C-1 is attributed to the dedication and technical excellence of PAEC’s scientists, engineers, and technicians. All four Chashma Nuclear Power Plant units (C-1 to C-4) are currently operating at high capacity and availability factors, showcasing exceptional operational standards.
Collaboration Behind the Success
The success has also been made possible due to the grid stability maintained by the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC). PAEC officials extended their appreciation to NTDC for ensuring uninterrupted support during the plant’s operation.
Member Power, PAEC, congratulated the Chashma Nuclear Power Generation Station (CNPGS) team for this landmark achievement while emphasizing that all safety protocols and international standards were strictly followed.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
This achievement aligns with PAEC’s ongoing efforts to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG-7), which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
With a legacy that began in 1972 through the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP), PAEC continues to uphold high standards in nuclear energy generation and operational excellence.
