CDA plans bicycle tracks throughout Islamabad city

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has given approval for the development of bicycle tracks and pedestrian walkways across Islamabad as part of a wider plan to enhance infrastructure and strengthen urban management in the city.

The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting held at CDA headquarters, chaired by Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Senior officials from various departments, including administration, engineering, planning, and environment, were present to review ongoing and upcoming projects.

During the briefing, officials shared updates on development work in residential sectors and commercial zones. This included the repair and rehabilitation of parking areas, improvement of footpaths, and upgrades in commercial markets as well as Class-III shopping centers to ensure better facilities for citizens.

Emphasizing modern urban planning, Randhawa instructed authorities to begin constructing bicycle tracks alongside existing footpaths in multiple areas of Islamabad. He also stressed the need to create pedestrian-friendly pathways in major commercial hubs to enhance accessibility, convenience, and public safety.

In addition, the CDA chief ordered strict action against illegal structures and encroachments in both residential and commercial areas, indicating a renewed campaign to clear public spaces and restore order.

The meeting also reviewed broader infrastructure improvement plans, including the installation of better signage, clear lane markings, and the expansion of digital parking systems to streamline traffic management.

Authorities were further directed to ensure regular landscaping and maintenance activities across the city. Special attention was given to repairing damaged manholes, curbstones, and drainage systems in affected locations.

Overall, the initiative, particularly the introduction of bicycle tracks, aims to promote sustainable transport, improve mobility, and create a more organized and pedestrian-friendly urban environment in Islamabad.
