The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced a 100 percent increase in fares for Islamabad’s feeder metro and electric buses, effective from June 1, 2025. The fare for a one-way trip on the Orange Line, Green Line, Blue Line feeder buses, and all electric bus routes has been raised from Rs. 50 to Rs. 100.
This fare hike applies across all 17 operational routes of the feeder metro and electric bus services in the capital. According to CDA officials, around 90,000 passengers use these services daily, including daily wage earners, students, and office workers. The increase is expected to significantly impact the affordability of public transport for these groups.

CDA has attributed the decision to a reduction in the government subsidy for bus operations. Previously, the government covered 50 percent of operational costs, but this has now been cut to 30 percent. As a result, the CDA will still bear an annual subsidy burden of Rs. 1.5 to 1.75 billion, down from Rs. 3.5 billion.
This marks the second attempt by CDA to raise fares. An earlier decision to implement the same fare hike on May 26 was withdrawn after facing public backlash. However, the revised fares have now been implemented without reversal.
