The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has officially allotted 8.33 acres of land at Shakarparian, Islamabad, to the Department of Archaeology and Museums. The land will be used for the construction of the Islamabad Museum, and the process of taking possession from CDA is currently underway.
This development was shared during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on National Heritage and Culture, held on Wednesday in the Constitution Room of the National Assembly Secretariat. The session was chaired by MNA Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar.
During the meeting, the committee emphasized the need for timely allocation of funds. Members recommended that the Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives release funds to the National Heritage and Culture Division for the construction of the National Museum of Pakistan in the federal budget for 2026–27. The committee highlighted that financial support is essential to move the project forward efficiently.
The Islamabad Museum is expected to be a national-level facility that will preserve Pakistan’s rich heritage and showcase archaeological and cultural artifacts. It will serve as a hub for research, exhibitions, and public education about the country’s history.
The committee also reviewed the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) (Amendment) Bill, 2025. All proposed amendments were unanimously approved, and the panel recommended that the bill be passed by the National Assembly.
Officials believe the museum will strengthen Pakistan’s cultural infrastructure and provide a modern platform to preserve historical artifacts. The CDA’s support in allotting land has been crucial to initiating the project and ensuring proper planning and execution.
