The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved 23 commercial building plans after reviewing 40 cases during the last four meetings of its Design Vetting Committee (DVC).
The authority said the approvals are part of efforts to encourage investment in Islamabad, streamline business processes and maintain safety standards for commercial construction.
Of the 40 cases reviewed, eight were withdrawn by architects and sponsors before the meetings because of incomplete documentation or failure to meet required conditions.
Of the remaining 32 cases presented before the DVC, 23 were approved, while several cases were deferred for further review.
Cases Deferred Over Parking and Design Issues
The CDA said most deferred cases involved incomplete presentations of basic parking arrangements, mandatory parameters and other design requirements.
These cases will be resubmitted to the DVC once the applicants complete the required documentation and address the outstanding design issues.
Five additional cases could not be presented because the relevant clients or architects were absent from the meetings.
The meetings covered in the latest review were held on June 4, June 16, July 30 and August 20, 2026.
CDA Tightens Accountability for Approved Designs
The DVC has also introduced additional accountability measures for commercial construction projects.
Under the new arrangement, the names of property owners, architects and consultants will be included in final approval letters. Their names will also be displayed at construction sites.
The CDA said the measure would help identify responsible parties if unauthorized changes are made to designs after approval and allow legal action to be taken where necessary.
Committee Formed to Review Building Bylaws
The CDA has also constituted a committee to examine complications in existing building bylaws that have contributed to delays in the approval of construction cases.
The committee will review issues involving parking requirements, commercial regulations and other relevant provisions before submitting recommendations to the authority.
The CDA said the review is intended to help address regulatory complications and speed up the processing of pending cases.
Citizens Can Submit Complaints Online
The authority said it is working to clear pending cases as quickly as possible.
Citizens can submit complaints related to DVC matters, position certificates, land issues and other concerns through the Member Planning or Chairman’s Office.
Complaints and relevant applications can also be submitted through the CDA’s online portal.
The authority said these measures are aimed at improving transparency, reducing delays and making the approval process more efficient while ensuring that commercial development in Islamabad continues within approved safety and planning standards.
