Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to complete the Faisalabad and Gujranwala Yellow Line Mass Transit projects by March 2027.
She issued the instructions while chairing a special meeting in Lahore to review progress on both projects. The chief minister directed officials to work in three shifts to ensure construction remains on schedule.
Maryam Nawaz also reviewed the ongoing development work through drone footage and emphasized the need to complete the projects within the assigned deadline.
Gujranwala Yellow Line Project Progress
Officials briefed the meeting that the Gujranwala Yellow Line Mass Transit project will cover 31.5 kilometers and include 25 stations, including two underground stations.
The project will also feature 12 underpasses, a 35-kilometer service road and signal-free U-turns aimed at improving traffic flow and public transport connectivity.
Around one-third of the Gujranwala project has been completed so far. Authorities have installed 1,233 poles and 552 transformers as part of the ongoing infrastructure work.
Work on a 62-kilometer drainage system is also underway and has reached around 40 percent completion.
The project will further require the installation of 15,000 feet of sewerage lines, 12,000 feet of water supply lines and 11,000 feet of gas pipelines.
Faisalabad Mass Transit Work
Authorities also provided an update on the Faisalabad Mass Transit System during the meeting.
As part of the project, 1,835 trees have been replanted, while 15 kilometers of gas pipelines have been laid.
Twelve bus stops have also been constructed as work continues on the mass transit infrastructure.
The project is expected to improve public transport facilities and provide residents with a more organized and efficient commuting system.
Maryam Orders Timely Completion
Maryam Nawaz said the government was aware of the difficulties faced by ordinary citizens because of ongoing development work.
She directed officials to accelerate construction activities and ensure that both the Faisalabad and Gujranwala projects are completed by March 2027.
The three-shift work schedule is intended to help authorities meet the deadline while maintaining progress on different components of the projects.
The Punjab government has been pursuing mass transit expansion in major cities as part of its efforts to improve public transportation, connectivity and urban mobility.
