CCP advises gold market regulation before Reko Diq project

The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has recommended regulating the gold market ahead of the launch of the Reko Diq mining project.
Officials said proper oversight is needed to ensure transparency and prevent market manipulation once the project becomes operational.

CCP highlighted that Reko Diq’s large-scale production could impact domestic gold prices and trade dynamics.
Authorities stressed the importance of establishing clear guidelines for gold import, export, and pricing mechanisms.

The commission urged collaboration between federal and provincial bodies to monitor the sector effectively.
Experts believe that implementing regulations now will safeguard both investors’ interests and the national economy.

Officials added that a well-regulated gold market would support sustainable growth and long-term benefits from Reko Diq.
The government is expected to review CCP’s recommendations before finalizing policies for the mining project.
