Careem will be suspending its ride-hailing service in Pakistan starting today (July 18), as announced by the company’s CEO, Mudassir Sheikha, on social media.
Sharing the news with “a heavy heart,” Sheikha said the decision was extremely difficult. He explained that Pakistan’s tough economic conditions, rising competition, and challenges in securing global investments made it unsustainable to continue providing a reliable and safe service in the country.

“This was a very tough decision for the Careem Rides team,” he stated.
Expressing his gratitude, Sheikha also praised the team behind Careem’s success in Pakistan, especially acknowledging the leadership of Junaid Iqbal. “Thank you — your dedication and passion shaped Careem and inspired a generation,” he added.
In an email to users, Careem mentioned that customers with remaining balances in their Careem Wallet will receive guidance soon on how to withdraw their funds.
The company also confirmed that customer support will remain active until September 18, 2025, to resolve any pending issues.
