On Friday, a total of 24 hostages, including 13 Israelis, approximately 10 Thai nationals, and one Filipino, were released from Gaza as part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The fighting, which commenced on October 7, had led to a humanitarian crisis in the region. In reciprocation, Tel Aviv released 39 Palestinians, with 33 detainees freed from Ofer prison to Ramallah in the West Bank, and others released from a Jerusalem lockup.
The International Committee of the Red Cross confirmed the transfer of captives from Gaza to the Rafah border crossing with Egypt. Subsequently, the Israel Defense Forces conducted an initial medical assessment within Israeli territory, reuniting the hostages with their families.

Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesperson verified the release of the 24 civilians previously held by the Palestinian group. The first group of released individuals includes Hanna Katzir, 76, Doron Katz-Asher, 34, and children Raz, 4, Aviv, 2, 6-year-old Amelia Aloni, and her mother Daniel, 45. Other individuals on the list include Ohad Munder-Zichri, Keren, 54, Ruth, 78, and several other seniors.
Various leaders and organizations expressed gratitude to the leaders of Qatar, Egypt, and Israel for their roles in the deal, which aims to release more hostages. Initial reports indicated that over 200 people were held captive on October 7, prompting governments and families to work towards their release. Following six weeks of intense bombing, Israel agreed to a ceasefire lasting at least four days, facilitating the entry of aid trucks and some fuel into Gaza.
