Canada Announces Post-Graduation Work Permit Expansion

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]The Canadian government has granted international graduates with recently expired or expiring post-graduation work permits (PGWP) an extension of up to 18 months to stay and work in the country.

During a period of economic uncertainty, employers are struggling to find and retain skilled workers. According to Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, eligible PGWP holders who wish to stay longer can do so by extending their work permits.

The PGWP Program provides international graduates with an open work permit, allowing them to gain work experience in Canada.

Individuals with expired PGWP, as well as those eligible for the 2022 PGWP facilitative measure, will be able to apply for an extended work permit of up to 18 months beginning on April 6.

Individuals with expired work permits can even regain their status if they are more than 90 days past the 90-day restoration period, and will be granted a temporary work permit while their new one is being processed.

International graduates contribute significantly to Canada’s labour shortage. The extension will enable qualified applicants to continue contributing to the Canadian economy while gaining work experience and preparing to apply for permanent residence.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
