BYD Launches World’s Fastest Car Breaking Speed Records Globally

BYD’s luxury sub-brand, YANGWANG, has broken the global production-car top-speed record with its U9 Xtreme hypercar. The car reached 496.22 km/h on September 14, 2025, at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg track.

This achievement surpasses the previous electric vehicle top-speed record and even beats the fastest petrol-powered production car, which recorded 490.484 km/h. BYD has now set a new benchmark for electric hypercars worldwide.

The U9 Xtreme builds on the standard U9 model sold in China but includes major technical upgrades to achieve extreme performance. The hypercar features a 1200V ultra-high-voltage electric system, an increase from the previous 800V, and a Lithium Iron Phosphate Blade Battery with a 30C discharge rate.

Four ultra-high-speed motors power the car, producing over 3000PS and operating at up to 30,000 rpm. The U9 Xtreme also uses track-level semi-slick tires and a revised DiSus-X suspension designed for high-speed circuit driving. These enhancements ensure the hypercar delivers unmatched speed while remaining emission-free.

BYD’s engineers have successfully combined luxury, performance, and sustainability in the U9 Xtreme. The car demonstrates that electric vehicles can outperform traditional petrol hypercars in terms of top speed and acceleration.

The record-breaking performance has drawn global attention to BYD’s technological capabilities and its commitment to electric mobility. Industry experts highlight that the U9 Xtreme sets a new standard for electric hypercars and raises expectations for future electric vehicle innovations.

With the U9 Xtreme, BYD reinforces its position as a leader in high-performance EVs, showcasing advanced engineering, luxury design, and eco-friendly performance. The achievement is a milestone for the global automotive industry.
